Four Auburn schools have earned 2011 Washington Achievement Awards, noting their improvement and closing achievement gaps over the three previous years.
The award, sponsored by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction and the State Board of Education, was awarded to:
- Alpac Elementary School for Overall Excellence
- Gildo Rey Elementary School for Overall Excellence and Math
- Hazelwood Elementary School for Overall Excellence
- Ilalko Elementary School for Closing Achievement Gaps
“The Washington Achievement Award is a highly selective award based on schools’ performance according to the Washington Achievement Index, a comprehensive measurement of how schools in Washington are performing over the three previous years,” according to the school district.
The award celebrates elementary, middle, high and comprehensive schools for overall excellence and special recognition in: language arts, math, science, graduation rate, improvement and closing achievement gaps.
The schools will be awarded for their achievement at a ceremony hosted by Mariner High School in Everett on April 25.
